Frank Stechey, BA, DDS
Dr. Stechey is currently the president of the Royal College Dental Surgeons of Ontario. His election to this position for a two-year term in January 2007 is the culmination of over 37 years in the dental profession in Ontario.
The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario is the regulatory body for the province’s over 8,000 dentists. The College is recognized as one of the leading health-care regulators in the country.
A 1971 graduate of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Stechey practises in Hamilton. He is an active member of the Ontario Dental Association and the Canadian Dental Association and has served as president of the local Hamilton Academy of Dentistry.
Since 2003, Dr. Stechey has served on the College’s governing Council representing the Niagara and Greater Hamilton area.
Now as President, he is chair of the Executive Committee, and sits as a non-voting member on the Audit Committee, the Finance, Property and Administration Committee, and the Legal and Legislation Committee.
With over 23 years of forensic dental experience in civil and criminal cases, product liability, homicides, and child, domestic and senior abuse cases involving bite marks, he often appears as a guest lecturer. He also works as a consultant for the Children’s Hospital at Hamilton’s McMaster University Medical Centre, as well as for several police services and children’s aid societies throughout North America.
Due to his commitment to volunteer service both locally and internationally, he has twice been a finalist as the City of Hamilton’s “Citizen of the Year” for his vast amount of volunteer service. As renowned national radio broadcaster Roy Green has said: “There are members of our community who improve our lives, the image of our city and respect for Canada. Dr. Frank Stechey is one of these Hamiltonians.”
Dr. Stechey is married with three grown children and two wonderful grandchildren.
