Pandemic Planning: Are You Ready?
Internet communication is key communications tool.

Dealing with a pandemic will present a challenge like no other. As we all know, influenza pandemics have the capacity to cause serious mortality and morbidity as the population has little or no immunity to the circulating strains of influenza.

Although there is not way to predict when the next influenza pandemic will occur, many health experts believe that it is overdue and planning should take place to deal with such an emergency.

The World Health Organization, Public Health Agency of Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care have all released influenza pandemic documents to aid in the planning process and to address prevention, preparedness and operational activities for an effective response and recovery.

To assist health care providers like dentists, the health ministry has developed an enormous amount of information, like fact sheets designed specifically for health-fare professionals on topics such as caring for patients during an influenza pandemic and protection for health-care workers. All this information is available from the Ministry Web site at www.health.gov.on.ca.
