Overview

Under this innovative and cost-effective program, each member of the College obtains the benefit of mandatory errors and omissions coverage for professional liability or malpractice claims. The program is funded by a portion of the annual fees paid to the College by dentists.This ensures, as much as possible, that mechanisms are in place to protect the public in the event of injury resulting from a breach of the expected standards of care by an Ontario dentist.

It is important to note that the Professional Liability Program (PLP) is separate and apart from the College’s complaint’s (ICRC) process and, unlike that process, PLP can deal with the financial aspects of a particular issue. To access PLP, patients need to put the dentist who they are not satisfied with on notice about their financial demands and expectations. The dentist, once notified, will then report the matter to PLP.
