The College’s Jurisprudence and Ethics course is the first LifeLong Learning program to go online. The course is meant to inform new dentists and remind current members of the College about:
- how the dental profession is regulated in this province;
- the importance and purpose of self-regulation;
- current practice norms and standards and the rules of practice;
- the ethical and legislative environment in which health professionals work;
- risk management strategies that allow dentists to practise safely throughout their dental career.
The course is broken down into eight modules:
- Introduction
- Understanding the College
- Legislative Model
- Rules That Govern Dental Practice
- Professional Boundaries
- Guiding the Profession
- Ethical Expectations
- Professional Liability Program
It also includes a number of downloadable resources that can be accessed from directly within the course.
Participation in the College’s Jurisprudence & Ethics course is worth 15 CE credits for RCDSO members. If you are interested in accessing the online instructional course and evaluation, please complete the application form below and forward it via:

Application for Jurisprudence and Ethics Course
Once the College receives your completed application form, you will be issued a PIN from the College’s Quality Assurance Department and information on how to access the program.
Before accessing the Jurisprudence & Ethics online instructional course and evaluation, you will be asked to enter your contact information, to create a unique username and password and to enter the PIN assigned to you by the College for validation purposes.
After logging in, you will be directed to the Introduction module of the program where you will begin working through the modules and associated case studies in succession.
Upon completing the course and post-course evaluation, an email will be sent to the College, advising the Quality Assurance Department that you have completed the course.
Interruption of Modules and Associated Cases
If for any reason you are interrupted while completing the course modules, you can login again by simply entering your username and password. You will automatically be directed to the last module you had been studying and can access the content in previously completed modules.
