RCDSO Registrar announces plans to retire
The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario learned today that our Registrar of two decades, Irwin Fefergrad, plans to retire within the next six months.
This news will take a little time to sink in. For the moment, my feelings are equal parts sadness and gratitude.
As the first non-dentist to lead the College, Irwin has shown us the importance of truly addressing our mandate to act in the public interest. His focus on this task has helped to transform the RCDSO and the wider field of regulation. All of this work has been done with warmth and generosity. He has won the respect of staff, peers and colleagues across the country. His expertise is sought and followed; his impact on regulation is undeniable and hugely valuable.
I have had the privilege to work closely with Irwin in my roles as vice president and President of the College. In that time he has taught me about the importance of our task and how we can be most effective as a regulator.
In the coming weeks we will begin the search for a new Registrar for the RCDSO. That will not be easy, but I am confident that whoever is selected will inherit a strong executive team, a superb and dedicated staff, and an organization with a clear vision and strategic plan to achieve that vision.
