RCDSO Update - March 19, 2020 (COVID-19)

We’ve heard concerns from the public about dentists not respecting Public Health advice about self-isolation following travel or attendance at the Pacific Dental Conference.

Who should self-isolate?

Anyone who is directed to do so by their healthcare provider or by Public Health.

Ontario Public Health has directed individuals to self-isolate for 14 days if:

  • You attended the 2020 Pacific Dental Conference in Vancouver BC. The conference took place March 5-7
  • You have travelled anywhere outside of Canada (including the United States) within the last 14 days
  • You live with, provided care for, or spent extensive time with someone who has:
    • Tested positive for COVID-19, OR is suspected to have COVID-19, OR
    • Respiratory symptoms (fever, cough, or shortness of breath) that started within 14 days of travel outside of Canada.

If you fit into any of the categories above, the College urges you to cooperate and go into self-isolation, even if you are currently symptom-free.  This is essential to flatten the curve and ensure that the health of patients, and the greater public, including dentists and their loved ones is protected.

What is self-isolation?

Self-isolation is when you have been instructed to separate yourself from others, including those within your home, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
