Core Courses must be approved by the Quality Assurance Committee. Core Courses must be relevant to the practice of dentistry and designed to promote continued competence and maintenance of professional standards. In approving courses, the Quality Assurance Committee considers several criteria: Principles for Approved Sponsors and Core Course Presenters (rcdso.org)
In addition, the Quality Assurance Committee has agreed that real-time live-streaming of a Core Course offers dentists a suitable method of obtaining continuing education and can satisfy the criteria for Core Courses, provided that the following requirements are met:
- The course provider must be able to confirm a member’s attendance for the full course presentation; that is, the member logged into the presentation and was registered as being present from the beginning and through to the end of it.
- The course provider must be able to confirm a member’s attention during the course; for example, the member has responded to periodic interactive elements, such as polling questions, roughly every 30 minutes that require a response within a window of time.
- The speaker must agree to invite and answer questions from members who are attending remotely.
- The course provider must be able to confirm a member’s submission of a completed assessment.
Regarding the second requirement noted above and the possible use of interactive elements to fulfill this requirement, the Quality Assurance Committee has set a minimum requirement of 80% for responses by each member.
Approved sponsors who have questions about real-time live-streaming of a Core Course, or wish to submit a proposal for review, please contact Dr. Michael Gardner, Director, Quality Assurance, at email@example.com, or by phone at 416-934-5611.
