International Applicants
Who is considered an international applicant?
There are two types of international dental applicants:
1. Graduates of Accredited Dental Programs
If you graduated from a dental program in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, or Ireland, your education is considered accredited. These countries have a mutually recognized accreditation system for dental training.
What does this mean for you?
You can apply directly to the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB) to complete the National certification exam to be eligible for licensure in Ontario.
To be eligible, you must have graduated on or after the following dates:
- Australia – March 31, 2010
- New Zealand – December 14, 2011
- Ireland – December 5, 2012
- Saudi Arabia (King Abdulaziz University only) – August 1, 2019
- Turkey (Yeditepe University only) – February 1, 2024
To verify whether the program you completed is accredited visit:
- Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada
- Commission on Dental Accreditation (US programs)
- Australian Dental Council
- Dental Council of New Zealand
- Dental Council of Ireland
2. Graduates of Non-Accredited Dental Programs
If you completed your dental education at a school or in a country not listed above, your program is considered non-accredited.
To become licensed in Ontario, you must complete one of the following:
- The NDEB Equivalency Process, or
- A Qualifying or Degree Completion Program at an accredited university.
Visit the NDEB website to learn more about both options.
