Out-of-Province Applicants
If you are currently licensed to practise dentistry in another Canadian province or territory, you are eligible to apply for registration (licensure) in Ontario through labour mobility.
Key Things to Know
- You must be applying for an equivalent certificate to be eligible for labour mobility.
- You must still meet Ontario's standard registration requirements for the licence you are applying for.
- You must be in good standing in all jurisdictions where you hold a licence to practice dentistry.
- If English or French fluency was not a requirement for your original licence, you may be asked to demonstrate language proficiency.
More information can be found in the Ontario Labour Mobility Act, 2009 and the Regulated Health Professions Act.
Can I Transfer My Licence to Ontario?
No, dental licences cannot be directly transferred between provinces or territories.
Each province/territory has its own licensing authority governed by provincial laws. In Ontario, that authority is the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO).
If you want to practise in Ontario, you must apply for registration with the RCDSO, even if you’re already licensed elsewhere in Canada.
