Sedation & Anesthesia Permits:
Dental offices must have a facility permit to provide some types of sedation. Permits require:
- a review of the training of the dentist administering the sedation
- compliance with the Standard of Practice for the Use of Sedation and General Anaesthesia in Dental Practice
- on-site inspection and evaluation by the RCDSO.
Permit types
- Type A: The facility provides all the required sedation equipment and emergency drugs for the modality displayed.
- Type B: The facility uses the services of visiting providers, who are authorized by the College to bring with them all the requisite sedation equipment and emergency drugs.
- Type A and Type B: The facility provides the required sedation equipment and emergency drugs for the modality displayed, while using the services of visiting providers for other modalities.
CT Scanner Permits:
Dental offices must have a facility permit to prescribe, order and take dental CT scans. Permits require that the dentist is authorized by the College to conduct CT scans, a review of the training of the dentist conducting the scan and approval of equipment, designation by the Director of X-ray Safety at the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, required documents are provided to the College, and an on-site inspection. The information shown includes a summary of any deficiency found during any inspection until the deficiency has been rectified.
