COVID-19 Guidance: Antigen Point-of-Care Testing

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has amended the Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing Act, 1990 to allow some healthcare workers, including dentists, to perform Antigen Point-of-Care Testing (Antigen POCT) for COVID-19. Point-of-care testing (POCT or “rapid testing”) uses an approved COVID-19 testing device at or near the point of specimen collection.

RCDSO has produced COVID-19 Guidance: Antigen Point-of-Care Testing for dentists who are considering performing Antigen POCT in their practice for patients.

Dentists with questions about testing for office staff are advised to seek independent legal advice to ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities, including those related to health and safety in the workplace.
