As a result of a complaint, the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee decided to caution Dr. Seyed Hassan Seyedzadeh as follows: • There is a power imbalance in the Dentist-Patient relationship and it is the responsibility of the Dentist to maintain appropriate professional boundaries. If you choose to enter into financial relationships with your patients or their family members, you must still remain professional in your dealings with the patient at all times and not allow your financial relationship to take priority over your treating relationship. It was inappropriate to attend at the Patient’s house in this case to ask her for money related to your business dealings with the Complainant. • The Committee is disappointed that your responses to the College demonstrated a lack of insight and reflection into the issues that led to the complaint and denied discussing your financial dealings with the Patient when it was apparent that you did so based on the recording you submitted. You must reflect on the issues that led to this complaint and make appropriate changes to your conduct to avoid similar issues in the future. • You have an ethical and legal obligation to co-operate with College investigations. It is inappropriate for you to attempt to dictate College investigations by refusing to provide records when presented with a signed consent form.
