Caution

As a result of a complaint, the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee decided to caution Dr. Perry Argiropoulos as follows:

• Dr. Argiropoulos must understand the difference between a recall examination and a specific examination and ensure that he bills for the type of examination actually performed. 
• When Dr. Argiropoulos performs a specific examination, it is important to identify the area of concern, examine that specific area, recommend treatment and discuss findings and options with the patient and to document as much. Imaging done during a specific examination should also correspond to the area being examined specifically. 
• Dr. Argiropoulos must be sure to select the appropriate amount within the acceptable range as suggested by the ODA Fee Guide in charging for a specific examination and must only charge the maximum fee where the longest amount of time was required to complete the examination. 
• Dr. Argiropoulos must have protocols in place to avoid submitting the same claim to a patient’s insurance company more than once with different dates of service. 
• Dr. Argiropoulos must ensure that claims to a patient’s insurer are not submitted more than once and that the date of service reflected in the claim is accurate. 
• Dr. Argiropoulos must ensure that his chart notes indicate the actual date that treatment has been rendered. 
• Dr. Argiropoulos’ chart notes must be substantially more fulsome and provide sufficient detail in respect of the reason for the patient’s visit, what examinations he performs, what observations he makes, the treatment recommendations he provides and discussions with his patients.
