Caution

As a result of its investigation of a formal complaint, the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee decided to caution Dr. Paul Mirkopoulos as follows:

• He must update a patient’s medical history at each appointment, particularly when anesthesia is being administered and the patient had previously indicated that she may be pregnant.

• He must ensure that it is noted in the patient chart that the anesthesiologist was informed that the patient may be pregnant.

• He must ensure that a fulsome discussion regarding the risks of general anesthesia while pregnant takes place with the patient and that documentation of the discussion is recorded in the patient chart.
