As a result of a report, the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee decided to caution Dr. Jean-Paul Davis as follows: • The College’s guidelines, including the opioid guideline, apply to all dentists, including specialist dentists. You have a professional and ethical duty to follow the College’s guidelines and standards with respect to your prescribing, especially when prescribing medications with potential for abuse, diversion, or addiction, such as opioids and sleeping pills; • You have a professional and ethical duty to prescribe medication only to treat your patients for conditions within the scope of practice of dentistry. This is especially true when you are considering prescribing to family members or others close to you, and when prescribing medications with potential for misuse. • You are responsible for all medications that you prescribe, regardless of whether other members of your staff are involved in your prescribing process.
