Caution

As a result of a complaint, the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee decided to caution Dr. Ahmed Marei as follows:

• The patient’s perception of touch and personal space is of fundamental importance. Dr. Marei must be conscious of how his gestures, movements and positioning during patient care may be perceived by patients. Dr. Marei should use draping practices that respect a patient’s privacy and ensure that the placement of patient bibs or drapes is carried out in a professional manner. He should not place dental instruments or supplies on a patient’s chest, lap or shoulder/neck area.

• A dentist is distinguished not only by their cognitive and clinical skills, but also by their commitment to professionalism in their interactions with others. The hallmark of a professional dentist is the ability to develop relationships with patients, their agents, and other healthcare providers marked by professional courtesy, effective communication skills, and a caring and professional attitude. Dr. Marei should not disclose confidential patient health information to other practitioners unless it is within the circle of care or he has the patient’s consent.
 
• Dr. Marei is obligated to co-operate with the College and must ensure that he is honest in his communications with the College.
